Interview by Steve Kraske
of The Kansas City Star
Being an artist is challenging. Actually "making it" in the arts world is even tougher.
Today Steve Kraske welcomes Kansas City artist and gallery owner Paul Dorrell. In his new book Living the Artist's Life Dorrell covers many aspects of that artists face - from depression to self-doubt to drug use to lack of fulfillment to notions of "success" or "failure." Dorrell tends to view failure as an opportunity for learning whatever one's profession - after all, he faced successive failures over the years as both an art dealer and a novelist.
A well traveled and vastly experienced man, Dorrell has worked jobs as diverse as an Alaskan fisherman, a California ranch hand, and director's assistant at a prestigious museum in Connecticut.
