The Leopold Gallery founder and author, Paul Dorrell, had his book Living the Artist's Life: A Guide to Growing, Persevering and Succeeding in the Art World published by Hillstead Publishing this summer. The book can be found on bookshelves throughout Kansas City and the nation.
Dorrell's book is a resource for artists and other visionaries. From finding inspiration to judging one's succes or failure when all is said and done, Dorrell covers the trials and tribulations of the struggling artist; however, his book is not limited to the dramatic and whimsical life of an artist.
Living the Artist's Life is a guidebook for the determined. Dorrell provides information about everything from portfolios to critics. His insight fills a void in the art world judging from the 475 copy requests from art professors across the country.
"The obvious result of years of hard work, experience, and a great deal of thought, this is a book that I strongly feel everyone in the arts will benefit from," said Ken Ferguson, world-renowned ceramic artist and Professor Emeritus at the Kansas City Art Institute.
Dorrell regards himself as a writer, but he has spent years working in the art world. He founded the Leopold Gallery located at 55th and Brookside Boulevard in 1991. Prior to that he was Director's Assistant at Hill-Stead Museum in Connecticut. He has also worked as art consultant for the National D-Day Memorial, the Mayo Clinic, DLR Group Architecture, and others. His monumental projects have included a presidential dedication and an installation in the Capitol Building in Washington, DC.
